New Zealand Skilled Migration

As many other countries New Zealand is experiencing shortage of skilled workforce. If your occupation is in the list of skilled shortage, you can migrate to New Zealand

The New Zealand Skilled Migration Program allows skilled workers in specialist occupations to immigrate to New Zealand to help fill workforce shortages.

New Zealand is currently experiencing a huge shortage of skilled workers in a number of industries so now is the perfect time to apply.

You no longer need to have a job offer or sponsorship to be eligible for a New Zealand Skilled Migration Visa, but if you do have a job your visa can be organized in just 2-3 months. If you don’t have a job it will take between 6-9 months.

To be eligible for this New Zealand Work Visa you will need score at least 100 points in the skills test. Visit Am I Eligible for more information. The basic requirements are:

•You must be under 56 years old.
•You must meet the character and health requirements.
•Your occupation must be on the skills list.
•You must be fully qualified in your occupation.
•You must have at least 3 years experience relevant to your qualification.
•You must be fluent in English.
Applying for a resident visa under the Skilled Migrant Category is a two step process:

1. You fill out an Expression of Interest form, in which you tell NZ Immigration Department about yourself, your family, your skills, and your experience.

2. NZ Immigration Department accept your Expression of Interest and send you an Invitation to Apply, in which you give evidence for your claims.

NZ Immigration use a points system to judge the ability of a potential migrant to settle and contribute. If your EOI scores over 100 points, it goes into the pool of EOIs for this category.

Periodically, applicants with over 140 points are selected from the pool automatically. After this, those with between 100 and 140 points, and which include points for a skilled job or job offer, are selected. If we still have spaces available, additional selection criteria are set by the Minister of Immigration, allowing lower-scoring EOIs to be selected for invitation.

At this point, you apply. You need to provide with evidence of your job or job offer, work experience, qualifications, and any other factors for which you claimed points in you EOI.

There are three possible outcomes. NZ Immigration Department may decline your application. NZ Immigration Department may grant you residence. Or, they may defer your application and offer you a work to residence visa to help you obtain a skilled job offer. If you are able to get skilled work, NZ Immigration Department will approve your residence application.

New Changes in UK Business and Investor Migration Program (Tier 1)

The Immigration Minister in the UK Damian Green has said that the changes that have been brought in from 6 April 2011 will reduce levels of new immigration to the tens of thousands per year. However, changes in business and investor migration will be increased due to new criteria. Changes to the immigration system include the following:

•Tier 1 (General) Visa abolished.

•You will only now be able to come under Tier 1 if you come under the exceptional talent, investor and entrepreneur categories.

•There will be significant changes to the Tier 4 student visa category.

•If you wish to come under the Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer route and earn between £24,000 and £40,000 you will only be able to stay for a maximum of twelve months in the UK. If you earn more than £40,000 you will be able to stay for a maximum of five years including extensions.

•If you come under Tier 1 Investor and invest £5 million you will usually be granted permanent residence (properly known as indefinite leave to remain) in the UK after 3 years. If you invest £10 million or more you will able to apply for permanent residence after 2 years. Under the previous law all Tier 1 investors had to wait 5-year to gain indefinite leave to remain.

•If you are a Tier 1 Entrepreneur you will also be able to gain permanent residence in the UK more quickly if you create 10 jobs or turn over £5 million in a 3-year period.

•There will also be tougher requirements in other respects if you are in the Tier 1 (General) and Tier 2 category and wish to apply for permanent residence. There will be a new criminality threshold and income requirement and changes in the English language requirements.

Immigration Minister Damian Green had the following to say:

"The new system was designed in consultation with business. We have made clear that as the recovery continues, we need employers to look first to people who are out of work and who are already in this country.

"We are overhauling all routes of entry to tackle abuses, make the system more effective and bring net migration back down to the tens of thousands
